Nestled in the suburb of Nasr City, northeast of Cairo, the Cairo International Stadium stands as a symbol of Egyptian football. Designed by German architect Werner March, who also designed the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, the stadium was completed in 1960. It was inaugurated by President Gamal Abd El Nasser on 23 July 1960, coinciding with the eighth anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution of 1952. The stadium, reachable via the Cairo Stadium subway station at line 3, is the 69th largest stadium in the world and the 3rd largest in Egypt.
With an all-seated capacity of 75,000, the stadium was renovated in 2005 in preparation for the 2006 African Cup of Nations. Over the years, this venue has hosted several significant football events, including the 1991 All-Africa Games, the 2006 African Cup of Nations, and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The 2009 final between Brazil and Ghana took place here, with Ghana becoming the first African country to win the youth tournament. The stadium also served as a venue for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
