Dar Ben Achour in the Tunis medina

Located in the Pasha Street, Dar Ben Achour is a 17th-century palace that now houses the library of the city of Tunis.

Dar Ben Achour, previously known as Dar Bouattour, is a palace in the medina of Tunis. Built in the 17th century on Pasha Street, it served as the home of Mohammed Aziz Bouattour, who was the Prime Minister of Tunisia from 1882 to 1907.

Bouattour bequeathed the house to his grandson, Muhammad al-Tahir ibn Ashur, before it returned to Mohamed Fadhel Ben Achour. The municipality of Tunis acquired the property in 1970.

Following a restoration, the palace was transformed into a library in 1983. Its mission is to collect and preserve historical documents related to the city of Tunis and its people. In 1990, the building also became the headquarters of the Tunisian Association of Monuments and Sites.
