Tucked away in the heart of the Bayuda Desert, in the northern realms of Sudan, lies a hidden gem. This magical haven is the Monastery of Ghazali, established by the enlightened King Merkurios in the 7th Century. For centuries, it remained a secret refuge. It includes the ancient North Church, known to 19th-century explorers, and the younger, mud-brick South Church. The enchantment did not stop there, as it also houses dormitories, a refectory, and installations for food production. A team of dedicated Polish archaeologists have been meticulously researching this hidden gem from 2012 to 2018, and now, the world can finally bear witness to its beauty and history.
