The Catholic church of Notre-Dame des Neiges is located in the town center of Cilaos, a commune in the Hauts nestled in a natural cirque of the same name. Built between 1937 and 1940, the structure was constructed of reinforced concrete and was officially listed as a historical monument on August 14, 2000.
The construction of the church was driven by the will of the curate of Cilaos from 1934. Plans were drawn up by Francis Huet, a public works engineer for the State in Saint-Louis, and the first stone was laid on June 13, 1937. The interior furniture was provided by carpenter Irénée Accot, the first mayor of Cilaos, and was completed in 1942.
The church was consecrated on September 23, 1950, by Bishop Daniel Liston of Port-Louis. It features a carillon that was inaugurated on April 7, 1996. The building underwent renovations in October 2006.
