Located in Hell-Bourg, on an islet in the commune of Salazie on the island of La Réunion, the Maison Morange serves as the museum of music and instruments of the Indian Ocean. The museum is housed in the former residence of Henri Morange and was officially inaugurated on November 5, 2015.
The museum features more than 400 traditional instruments from a collection that is one of the three richest in France. This collection was gathered over a period of half a century by two enthusiasts, Robert Fonlupt and François Ménard, who traveled across the world to assemble the pieces.
The building is listed on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments. Visitors can see the diverse array of instruments that represent the musical heritage of the region and beyond, gathered from various locations across the globe.
