The Shimmering Standout of Green Ledge: The Ledge Light Refreshed

Back in the day, the Green Ledge Lighthouse guided sailors through the shaky shores of Greens Ledge. Today, after a contemporary makeover in 2018, it's gleaming once more, showcasing its radiant light in the western Long Island Sound.

Ever since it was completed in 1902, the Green Ledge Light, also known as the Ledge Light and the Rowayton Lighthouse, has been a guiding force for seafarers. Originated for the unsteady Greens Ledge Island, this sturdy structure eventually found its footing on the rocky coastline due to unstable conditions. In 1933, using a whopping 30,000 tons of rocks from the Radio City Music Hall excavation, it was given an unparalleled foundation. Fast forward to 2017, when the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society stepped in, and restoration work was set in motion, beginning in June 2018. With a towering height of approximately 90 feet, this cast-iron marvel continues to be an active navigational aid in the western Long Island Sound, neighboring Norwalk, Connecticut, and Darien, Connecticut.
