The Stamford Cone: A Stained Glass Pavilion

Step into Stamford, Connecticut and witness the breathtaking Stamford Cone, a stained-glass pavilion by artist Brian Clarke that's unlike any other.

The Stamford Cone is a stunning piece of contemporary art, commissioned for the headquarters of UBS AG in Stamford, Connecticut. Designed by artist Brian Clarke, it took three years and over $1 million to bring this beauty to life. Standing 14 metres high, this towering structure is supported by 16 fins of laminated, toughened glass.

With 204 individual panels of mouth-blown glass laminated to a skin of protective float that forms the exterior glazing, the Stamford Cone is indeed a sight to behold. It is located in Gateway Commons, part of the city's Percent for Art programme.

The work was completed in 1999 and was the largest free-standing glass structure ever built at the time of its completion. It stands in a landscaped park along Washington Boulevard, created as part of a 1990s regeneration drive for the area.
