The wreathed King Karl XIV Johan of Norrköping

The bronze statue of King Karl XIV Johan, with a wreath on his head, stands proudly in Carl Johans park, a statue built on 20 October 1846. It was the initiative of local citizens, chief among them John Swartz, and was sculpted by Ludwig Schwanthaler in München, Bayern. Ferdinand von Miller den äldre was the one who brought the statue to realization in München. The statue depicts Karl XIV Johan as a standing figure in marshal’s coat, with a wreath on his head, which is explicitly mentioned in the description of the statue. The pedestal for the statue was designed by Carl Theodor Malm. Initially, the pedestal also included two candelabras and a railing that surrounded the statue.
