The Bronze Age Entrance Graves of Innisidgen Hill

Innisidgen Hill on St Mary's, a scheduled monument in the Isles of Scilly, is home to two well-preserved Bronze Age entrance graves – Upper Innisidgen and Lower Innisidgen. These burial monuments are distinguished by their chambers, constructed with edge-set slabs and roofed by large covering slabs. The entrances to the chambers are typically accessible through an opening in the mound's stone outer edge. Excavations of entrance graves have often uncovered cremation urns, pottery fragments, and cremated and unburnt human bones. At the time of construction, the burial chambers overlooked a coastal inlet, later known as Crow Sound. The remains of a prehistoric field system are located on the northern slope of Innisidgen Hill next to the entrance graves.
