Lanyon Quoit

From the road between Madron and Morvah, Lanyon Quoit lies 50 metres to the east. A megalithic site from the Stone Age, it had originally stood tall with four supporting stones, high enough for a horseman to pass under. However, in 1815, it was toppled by a storm, leaving only three standing when it was re-erected nine years later. The capstone still stands, offering a puzzle for visitors. Lanyon Quoit is the north end of a long barrow, 26 metres long and 12 metres wide, which is thought to date back to the Neolithic period.
