Lleida Museum: A Disputed Art Treasury

The Diocesan and Comarcal Lleida Museum, founded in 1997 and officially opened in 2007, is home to various collections ranging from Roman to Baroque art. However, these treasures were once the property of a local diocese. In 1995, a Vatican decree segregated them, creating a dispute between Lleida and the neighbouring Roman Catholic Diocese of Barbastro-Monzón, as well as various Aragonese institutions, who have asserted their claims over these pieces.
