Hidden within the walls of the Ekain cave in Gipuzkoa, Spain, these Paleolithic paintings form a unique window into the ways of life of the 'Antxieta' culture, a culture lost to the ages. Madeleine caves have paintings in Ekain cave and the cave was studied in 1969 by Rafael Rezabal and Andoni Albizuri Azpeitiako. The cave paintings in Ekain include Zaldiak, Ahuntzei, Hartzei, and Azken zaldiei. The animal representations in Ekain's cave paintings are colored with various hues. André Leroi-Gourhan described the cave paintings in Ekain as 'perfect examples of the art of the Quaternary period'. Although the public is unable to see them, their echoes still resonate in Ekainberri.
