Gunpowder Plot Conspirators Stopped at Holbeche House - Staffordshire's

Holbeche House, known as Holbeche Hall in some texts, is a gentry house dating back to the late 16th century. The plotters of the Gunpowder Plot, motivated by religious unrest, aimed to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament, kill King James I, and install his son as the new monarch. After the plan was uncovered, the plotters sought refuge at Holbeche House. On 8th November 1605, a posse led by Richard Walsh besieged the house, resulting in the death or capture of most of the plotters. Today, Holbeche House is listed on the Heritage at Risk Register, and locals are working to preserve it for future generations. The property stands with bullets lodged in its walls from the 1605 fight at Holbeche House.
