A Rusty Relic in Gravette's Centennial Park: 1952's KCS rail car No. 383

Take a gander at the hidden, contemporary charms of this weathered 1952 relic in the heart of Gravette's Centennial Park, situated near Arkansas Highways 55 and 72.

Once upon a time, way back in 1952, this rusty beauty was born under the Kansas City Southern Railway, a division of our dear Louisiana and Arkansas Railroad. For over a decade, Kansas City Southern Railway Caboose No. 383 was a stalwart on the tracks. But by 1991, it was time for retirement. The city of Gravette got a grip on this gracious old gal and gave her a comfy home in Centennial Park. Visitors might mistake this boxcar for a dormant artifact, but hold on tight, because it's hiding a modern twist.

Unlike the traditional cabs with cupolas for gazing, this gal's equipped with bay windows instead. The switch was made to manage heavier loads while gallivanting along the rails. Although this locomotive's no longer roaming around, you're welcome to have a chinwag with Kansas City Southern Railway Caboose No. 383 right here at Centennial Park. It's been restored and polished, making it a charming timewarp to yesteryears and a peek into the future of our beloved rail industry.
