Sweden's smallest Town Hall

Stora Torget 1, 193 30 Sigtuna, Sweden

Three hundred years ago, Sigtuna was a poor city. Centuries of war and several city fires had left their mark on the small town. When Eric Kijhlman took over as the mayor of Sigtuna in 1737, he found the old town hall in a very poor condition. He decided that the city needed a new town hall and made his own drawings in accordance with the ideals of the time. With joint efforts, the city's residents gathered resources for the construction and on Pentecost 1744, the town hall was inaugurated. The beautiful council chamber was decorated with a royal portrait and magnificent chairs. Meetings were held there with the city councilors. In the town hall court, large and small criminals were convicted for more than 200 years. Today, the small town hall is a part of Sigtuna Museum and a popular wedding venue all year round.
