In the swing of the Great Depression, 1939 was a time when the Works Progress Administration (WPA) got busy. They twisted their time and cash to create a community hangout in tiny Wisconsin, making it a town hall by 1940 and adding a gym for good measure. As history took notice, this retro pride and joy landed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
