The Leo Petroglyph, situated in the tranquil village of Leo, Ohio, Jackson County, spans 6.1m x 4.9m. This sandstone carving, residence to 37 inscrutable figures of humans and wildlife, as well as mystifying footprints, remains a secret encrypted in time. Local tribes, the Fort Ancient (around AD 1000-1650), are believed to be the creators. A wooden shelter shields this enigma on the elevated, unglaciated Mississippian sandstone cliff, rising anywhere from 20-65 feet (6.1-19.8m) high. A 20x16-ft slab encases the drawings, an achievement of the Work Progress Administration. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, the Ohio History Connection maintains the conundrum, inviting exploration by archaeologists and curious visitors alike.
