Palace of La Isla in Burgos, Spain – Last Decree of Spanish Civil War Signed

The Palace of La Isla, located in Burgos, Spain, was built in 1881 by Juan Muguiro and Francisca Muguiro as their summer residence. From August 10, 1937, until October 18, 1939, it served as General Franco's headquarters and residence during the Spanish Civil War. On April 1, 1939, Franco signed the last decree ending the Spanish Civil War at the Palace of La Isla. After the capital was moved to Madrid, the palace was used for various meetings and events during Franco's dictatorship. Since 2008, it has been the seat of the Institute of the Castilian and Leonese Language.
