Madrid's storied 2.2-meter statue to Eduardo Rosales

On calle Pintor Rosales in Madrid, not far from the Prado Museum, stands a sculpture honoring the famous Spanish painter Eduardo Rosales. The statue towers at 2.2 meters tall, designed by Spanish sculptor Mateo Inurria. The monument was designed as a tribute to the painter Eduardo Rosales, and it was completed in 1922. The sculpture, made of stone, bears an inscription in Spanish:

year of 1922. What stands out, however, is not the statue's height, but an ironic twist: did the sculptor intend to make the statue taller, or did he intentionally cap it at 2.2 meters as a nod to the painter's initials, ER?
