General-Kvartermästaren's Castle, an impressive fortification in Karlshamn, Sweden, was initially built in 1659 as a skans on Boön to protect a naval base established in 1663. However, this skans was discontinued in 1677 in favor of a fortification on Frisholmen, construction of which began in 1675. This fort was taken over by Danish troops in 1676, but was recaptured by Swedish forces in 1677. The castle was captured again by the Danish in 1711, according to sources, and was sold to the Swedes the following year.
The garrison was stationed in the castle until 1864. Carl (Adolf) Hård, overstelöjtnant, was the first commander of the castle in 1675, appointed by General-Kvartermästaren Erik Dahlberg. He handed the castle over to the Danes during their siege on October 8, 1676, and was sentenced to be executed by court-martial on March 10, 1677, although it is unclear if the execution was actually carried out.
