The rune stone of Jobbyorn at Skånela Church

The rune stone at Skånela church is not only a piece of history, it is the history of Uppland itself. The stone was made in the Viking Age, around 1000 AD. Jobbyorn, son of Sigbjorn, carved the stone to honour his parent, and it remains standing in Skånela church more than 1000 years later. The stone is 1.82 meters tall and made of granite. It has a run-height of 7 centimeters and was moved from the south church wall to its current place in 1953. Despite the passing centuries, the stone’s inscription can still be read: 'Jobbyorn restored the sten to Sygbodyrn, his father.'
