HSwMS Aspö

In 1991, the Swedish Navy decommissioned the 1962 Arkö-class minesweeper, HMS Aspö (M63). Fast forward to today and the vessel, now a shipwreck, sits abandoned on the bottom of Stora Värtan at Alholmsudd. The Swedish Maritime Administration recorded the vessel in 1999, but attempts to contact the owner for its removal were unsuccessful.

HMS Aspö (M63) was a minesweeper in the Swedish Navy, part of the Arkö-class. Decommissioned in 1991 and sold, the vessel soon found itself stranded at Alholmsudd in Stora Värtan. The Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) registered the wreck in Notis 1045 in 1999. In 2006, attempts were made to contact the owner to remove the wreck, but they were unsuccessful. Worse still, in 2013, the wreck was damaged further when parts above water level caught fire. As of 2026, the wreck is still at the same location and is deteriorating with the passing years.
