The Hidden Fortress Under Stockholm's Shadow

The Karby Battery, a historical fortress south of Stockholm, is discretely hidden, a part of the Norra Front, safeguarding passageways between the water systems encircling Stockholm. Constructed at the turn of the 20th century, it remained operational until 1952. Remarkably, the fort still maintains surprisingly good condition after nearly a century. The fort comprises four U-shaped gun emplacements, three of which hold gun pits, while the fourth, the magazine, does not. Each gun emplacement is formed as earth banks encased in corrugated steel, reinforced with robust iron stakes to hold the steel in place. Concrete tunnels traverse between the gun emplacements, serving as gunpowder storage. One gun pit is constructed from concrete, covered with earth, making it unobtrusive amidst the landscape.
