Hôtel de Marchiennes

The Hôtel de Marchiennes, situated in a serene corner of Lille, maintains the resonances of the Abbaye de Marchiennes. It was founded in 1620 by Jean de Joncquoy, abbé of Marchiennes. At first constructed as a refuge for passing religious figures, it endured for centuries. The only remnant of the original construction is the porch, constructed in 1626. The present buildings were erected between 1710 and 1720, featuring the central portion and the north wing, with additions to the south wing in the 19th century. The Bon family, textile industrialists, purchased the property in 1804 and resisted demolishing it during the Saint-Sauveur quarter renovation in 1958, securing its historical monument status on November 3 of that year.
