Hidden 378 meters beneath Ostricourt, Fosse 2 stands tall, the deepest pit amongst its siblings pride. It's not just its depth that sets it apart, but its tenacity - it drew coal without pause, from 1860 until 1976. Unlike many others, it refused to succumb in the 50s or 60s; instead, it lingered, leaving a lasting impression on the town and the valley above. Now, the pit, along with a chunk of the town built around it, remains standing. In 2012, certain remnants of the mine, like the machine extraction building and the mine image, were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But all that's left today is a portion of the headframe, a spooky artifact, an eerie reminder of the industrious history that once reverberated through this valley.
