Iron Age relics at ancient trading site Greby grave field

Greby grave field, located north of Grebbestad, Tanum Municipality in western Sweden, is the largest Iron Age grave field in the region. Swedish archaeologist Oscar Montelius examined eleven of the graves in June 1873, and the inventory included glass pearls, bone combs, and other items dating back to the Migration period (approximately 400-500 AD).

Newer findings indicate that Greby might have been an ancient trading site. Nearby, the settlement site Tanum 1885, excavated between 2013 and 2015, yielded artifacts indicative of commerce such as spiral-shaped gold rings used as currency, metalworking debris, glass beads, and high-quality ceramics.
