Fröå Mine, situated in the eastern foothills of Jämtland, began operations in 1745 after fortune seekers discovered a lump of copper ore unearthed by Anna Larsdotter. The impetus for the mine’s operations arose from this find. The miners resided in torp, housing constructed by Gruvbolaget, each family receiving approximately 3 to 4 acres of land to farm around their homes.
The mine underwent four operational periods, with a hiatus between 1808 and 1836.
