Explore the 17th-century Fort de l’Estissac on Port-Cros Island

The Fort de l’Estissac, a historic fortress in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France, was constructed between 1634 and 1640, on orders from Richelieu. An initial defense against Spanish threats, it partially succumbed to the English during the Siege of Toulon in 1793. Post-renovation in 1812-1813 under Napoleon I’s directives, the fort continued service until its disarmament in 1885. It was later inscribed on the French Historic Monuments Inventory in 1947. Today, it functions under Port-Cros National Park, hosting a unique touristic experience.
