Exploring the Orientalist Grand Hercule Fountain at Finca Güell: A Journey to

Take a journey into the enchanting gardens of Finca Güell and be captivated by the majestic Grand Hercule Fountain, a testament to Antoni Gaudí's Orientalist architecture, intriguingly woven with the myth of Hercules.

The Grand Hercule Fountain, a masterpiece by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, is a stunning example of his Orientalist phase. Originally, it was an ornamental element added to the gardens of Finca Güell, which were redesigned in 1884 by architect Joan Martorell Montells. Many decades later, in 1983, the Grand Hercule Fountain was rediscovered and restored. It exudes a tribute to the legendary hero Hercules, whose life-like figure graces the fountain. The bust adorning the fountain was sculpted by Rossend Nobas. The awe-inspiring original bust of Hercules, weighing approximately 476 kilograms, was discovered in a municipal warehouse in 2021.
