Stone-built hillfort at Ažubalio piliakalnis: A piece of Lithuania's ancient

Ažubalio piliakalnis, also known as Bajorų piliakalnis, is a remarkable part of Lithuania's ancient past. Situated in Ažubalio Kaime, Vidiškių Seniūnija, in Ignalinos Rayonas, the hillfort is surrounded by a 2-4m high stone wall enclosing a 3m wide platform with a 0.5m high giraffe and a 0.5m high step. An impressive 5m wide ditch and 3m wide terrace on the platform add to its impressive structure. Protected by the Cultural Heritage Protection Order of the Republic of Lithuania since 1998, the hillfort covers an area of 17,000 square meters, with a visually protected zone of 448,000 square meters that preserves a piece of Lithuania's rich and ancient history.
