Chipiona Lighthouse suspended visits due to Peregrine Falcon nest

Chipiona lighthouse, one of the tallest traditional lighthouses in the world, stands at 205 feet (62 m) and is located in the city of Chipiona, in the province of Cádiz, Spain. Due to a breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons, the City Council has agreed to temporarily suspend visits to the lighthouse until May 18. This measure is supported by the Port Authority of Seville and environmental entities such as CANS and the Cádiz Society of Natural History. The well-being of the birds is prioritized, even if it means foregoing some tourist activities for a few weeks. The lighthouse, with 344 steps leading to the balcony below the lantern room, offers conditions similar to the rocky cliffs where this species naturally nests. The 69-meter tall structure, though temporarily closed to visitors, continues to serve as the landfall light for Seville.
