The Castillo Melgarejo in Torre Melgarejo, located a few kilometers from Arcos de la Frontera, is a historic landmark that reaches back to the Chalcolithic period. However, the structure you see today is the result of a 1606 acquisition by the Melgarejo family. The castle, protected as a cultural heritage asset since 1985, consistsof a quadratical tower that transforms into an octagonal at its upper part, crowned with battlements and remnants of its machicolations at the four corners and four walls. A hooded arched door, adorned with the Melgarejo coat of arms, is situated on the left of the tower. To the left of the tower, a hooded arched cubicle may have once served as the chapel. In 2018, the castle suffered a significant collapse, which was controversially covered in 2019 with a sheet metal covering, authorized by the Junta de Andalucía.
