Burestenen, also known as Nolbystenen, is a memorial runestone located in the Kvissle-Nolby-Prästbolet region in Medelpad, Sweden. It is one of the most significant historical relics in the region, dating back to the Pre-Viking Age and the early Middle Ages. The stone is listed in Rundata as M 1, classifying it as a memorial runestone and a testament to the power and importance of the Swedish elite in the 11th century.
According to the inscription, Burestenen is a tribute to a certain Bure, who was likely a powerful chieftain. The runic inscription depicts a bauta-stone, or a sacrifice stone, inscribed with symbols of Bure's power and influence.
In addition to its historical significance, Burestenen lies beside the ruins of a manor chapel from the Early Middle Ages, and the area has a unique concentration of historic and prehistoric artifacts. In the vicinity, there are pre-Viking Age graves and large tumuli from the Swedish Migration Period, as well as crosses marking the Christianization of the 11th century Medelpad.
