In the heart of the picturesque Spanish city of Málaga, La Malagueta Bullring reigns as more than just a cultural center offering year-round events. Designed by architect Joaquín Rucoba, this 16-sided arena, spanning 52 meters in diameter, can host up to 9,032 spectators. It has been a symbol of Málaga's resilience over the years, counterbalancing the city’s softer, touristy side.
From serving as a concentration camp during the Spanish Civil War, to a prison during the Second World War, to becoming a Spanish national heritage site, La Malagueta has not only survived but transcended its original purpose.
Today, it stands as a pulsating testament to Málaga’s resilience, hosting several annual events like the Corrida Picassiana, Feria de Agosto, and, during Holy Week, two bullfights. In September, the bullring pays tribute to Our Lady of Victory, the patron saint of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Málaga, by hosting the final bullfight of the season.
