Nestled on the southern slope of the Gibralfaro hill, the Jardines de Puerta Oscura are located in the city of Malaga. The gardens were designed by the architect Fernando Guerrero-Strachan Rosado in 1937, positioned behind the Ayuntamiento and the Jardines de Pedro Luis Alonso.
The objective of the gardens was to frame the walls of the Alcazaba, in the location where there was once a gate called Puerta Oscura, from which the gardens take their name. They are arranged in a succession of terraces, creating a distinct landscape layout.
A variety of tree species adorn these terraces, including ciprés, the canary island date palm, pino carrasco, buganvilla, and jacaranda. These plants characterize the site as it overlooks the historic walls of the Alcazaba.
