Located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Barnum-Palliser Historic District is a vestige of the Victorian era, proudly standing the test of time. First conceived by P.T Barnum's Palliser, Palliser & Company in the 1880s, this neighbourhood was created with worker accommodations in mind. The majority of the district rests on Austin, Gregory, and Atlantic Streets, between Park and Myrtle Avenues. Originally, the houses boasted wooden clapboard or shingled facades.
Around 36 properties make up the district, with approximately two-thirds designed by Palliser, Palliser & Co. and featured in Palliser's 'Model Homes for the People'. The only non-residential building in the district is the Myrtle Avenue/Jefferson School, which showcases a Beaux-Arts brick facade and front section, while the rear section harkens back to a Victorian frame. One of the 36 properties, the James H. Jones House, was built in 1878.
