A Viking Age Memorial Runestone Erected in 1006 by a Skålhamra Chieftain

In a field near Skålhamra, west of Vallentunasjön, a Viking Age runestone stands, marked by two interwoven rune orms. Dated to 1006, it was erected by Ulf, a main man of the Skålhamrasläkt family, in memory of his good father. The inscription reads: 'Ulvkettil and Gye and Une erected this stone in memory of Ulf, father, good man. He lived in Skålhamra. May God help his soul and save and God’s mother, give light and paradise to him.' The stone stands near the cottage Risbyle and between its pair stone, U 161. Ulf was the main man of the Skålhamrasläkt family at the beginning of the millennium, and the inscription shows a pronounced Christian belief. The site also contains remains of a medieval court, and there are two more runestones, U 225 and U 226, erected in memory of Ulf at Bällsta on the other side of Vallentunasjön.
