Uppland Runic Inscription 145

This stone, unremarkable to the modern eye, lies next to a modern bridge, a remnant of the Viking era. Three rune stones along this rural Uppland path tell a story of a bridge built over a millennium ago. The stone that bears a name, not of the village, but of a person named Olev, who was a skilled Norse craftsman, also carved other rune stones at this site. The inscription on the stone commemorates someone called Sten, but it's a mystery why this remote location and a stone, rather than a more imposing monument, was chosen.
