Stift Neustift, a reconstruction of the past in South Tyrol's Vahrn municipality, Italy, was the first Augustinian-Chorherren Stift in Tyrol. Under the direction of Hartmann, Propst of Klosterneuburg, with the backing of Brixner Ministeriale and Bishopric Burgraves Reginbert von Säben, it was constructed 3 km north of Brixen, in a wild and untamed location. The choice of location was strategic, for it was distant from any meddling settlements and provided the perfect opportunity to practice Hospitalitas Augustiniana. When Hartmann took over the Diözese of Brixen, it was in a sorry state, often devoid of spiritual guidance. Hartmann, with his unconventional approach, built Stift Neustift, envisioning it as a means to enhance the education of the clergy and revive the spiritual life in the diözese, hoping for an impact that would resonate for centuries.
