A secret entrance to the past

In the province of Ávila, Spain, a farmer grazes sheep between his house and an ancient tomb. The tomb, known as the Dolmen del Prado de las Cruces, is a rare find in daily life today. It is an example of megalithic architecture, constructed over two thousand years ago for a people who lived in the Neolithic period. The tomb is not in a graveyard or a museum. It is in a field, on a farm. From a distance, its circular chamber is covered by a mound which reaches 20 meters in diameter. The mound is a pile of earth and stones, the local name for a megalith: a dolmen. The interior of the tomb is circular, with a corridor that leads visitors to the burial chamber.
