A prayer for sailors in Nigrán, Spain

The Monumento a la Marina Universal, nested in Panxón Parish, Nigrán Municipality, towers 25 meters high atop Monteferro Peninsula. Constructed by Manuel Gómez Román and inaugurated in 1924, this truncated pyramid of granite, adorned with four bronze crowns, stands as a powerful testament to sailors who have lost their lives at sea. In front, the Virgin of Carmel, the patroness of sailors, cradles an infant Jesus and gazes upon a towering cross above them. The inscriptions on each face recall their struggles and sacrifices, etched in stone as a remembrance of the many tragedies that have occurred on the water.
