A Gothic Convent's Echoes: Pontevedra's 13th-Century Time Capsule

The Ruins of San Domingos began as a gothic convent, founded around 1282 and construction on the surviving elements commenced in 1383. An ancient structure within the Museo de Pontevedra complex, the convent has weathered various occupations and attempts at destruction. In 1836, it was closed and transformed into an asylum, and further decay ensued. Demolition work was halted twice due to opposition, but it wasn't until 1895 that the building was declared a National Monument. The museum's headquarters were eventually selected for the ruins, serving now as a potent reminder of history and the perseverance of the Pontevedra community.
