A labyrinth of resonant marble: the secret heart of the Scuola Grande di San

A labyrinth of resonant marble, shrouded in historical mysteries and enchanting tales.

Hidden in the heart of Venice, the Scuola Grande di San Marco is a captivating maze of marble. Built in 1260 by the Confraternity of San Marco, it was once a seat of Venetian power. Destroyed by a fire in 1485, it was rebuilt under a new design by Pietro Lombardo. The façade, a stunning testament to Venetian architectural prowess, is decorated with white or polychrome marble statues and sculpted elements. The school's grounds bear the mark of three famous alumni from the fifteenth century: Ambrogio Contarini, Giosafat Barbaro, and Alvise da Mosto, who made their voyages immortal. Three paintings, created by Jacopo Tintoretto and Palma Vecchio, adorn its walls. Today, the Scuola is part of the Polo Museale della Scuola Grande di San Marco.
