Pålsund's Artillery Battery: A Millennium of Defenses

Pålsund's Artillery Battery, also known as the 17th Battery, is located on Bogesundslandet in Vaxholms commune. The remaining structures were part of the Vaxholmslinjen, a series of defensive works. Maritime defenses have been present at Pålsundet since the 16th century. To block sea traffic, poles were pushed into sundet. In the 1700s, a blocking buoy was placed transversely across sundet and wrecked ships were sunk to further impede traffic. Four cannons were positioned on a rock, where the bank of Pålsundsbridge now lies.
