Bodega's Blessed Blunder: Mariner's Church - Seafaring Saintliness Since 1861

When ocean-trotters build a house for the sea god, you'd think it'd be calm waters all the way. Duck inside this wacky watering hole that's starred in its own morbid farce.

Erected on soil gifted by Jasper O'Farrell, this curious California fixture, Mariner's Church of Bodega, is a peculiar mix of nautical mystique and divine vouchsafe. Dedicated to the Spanish saint, St. Teresa, it was the townsfolk's runaway favorite. Archbishop Alemany sprinkled holy water on it on June 2, 1861, sealing the deal. Originally under the governance of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, it's currently a part of the Diocese of Santa Rosa in California. This church is a California Historical Landmark and the oldest continuously operational one in Sonoma County.
