The former prison turned Marronnage museum in Saint-Paul

A historical longère in Saint-Paul serves as a cultural space dedicated to the history of Marronnage.

The Sudel Fuma longère, also known as the longère communale de Saint-Paul, is located at 1, rue Marius et Ary Leblond in Saint-Paul, Réunion. The building and its surrounding land were listed as a historical monument on December 13, 2010.

Recent research has confirmed that the building served as an old prison. To prepare for its new life, the longère underwent a renovation in 2015 to become a cultural site.

In 2016, the Sudel Fuma cultural space opened to the public. It is named after the Réunionnais historian Sudel Fuma. The space features an exhibition on Marronnage, exploring how individuals refused slavery on the island of Bourbon during the 18th century.
