Set right in the heart of the Big Apple, this bronze behemoth, reproduced from a statue in Madrid, honors the 400th anniversary of Columbus setting foot in the Americas in 1492, bestowed by the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. With outstretched arms and skyward gaze, ol' Chris has been weathering the winds of time just swell. However, in August 2017 and February 2023, he received an unwanted makeover, adorned with red paint and shouts of 'Hate will not be tolerated' in 2017, 'murderer' and 'land back' in 2023. But, like on his adventures, Columbus faces it all and keeps on standing tall. Whether it's the old man's charm or just New York's welcome note, he remains the landmark he's always been.
