Krapperup Castle: From a Medieval Stone House to a Baroque Masterpiece

In 1314, Krapperup Castle in Nyhamnsläge, Sweden, was a simple rectangular stone structure. This was where the mayor resided and hosted festivities. In the 16th century, a brick main house replaced the original stone structure. A succession of ownership followed, but it was Maria Sofia De la Gardie who ruled during the Baroque period. In the 18th century, she adorned the castle with Rococo elegance. In the 19th century, the Gyllenstierna couple transformed the area around the castle into an English-style garden. Currently, the Gyllenstiernska Krapperupstiftelsen foundation owns Krapperup Castle, preserving its rich history with utmost care.
