Tour Brune, located in Embrun, France, is an ancient donjon that served various purposes over time. Initially the dwelling of the archbishops of Embrun, it was later used as a storage and occasional prison. Inside, five superimposed vaults filled its internal volume, originally housing only two intermediate levels. Once a lookout tower, it also served as a treasury room, arsenal, and water reservoir during the French Revolution. Today, Tour Brune is classified as a historical monument by decree of March 5, 1927, and the entire old archbishopric, including its courtyards, is listed as a historical monument by decree of September 20, 2005.
