The Our Lady of Victories Cathedral, or Cathedral of Dakar, serves as the Catholic cathedral in the capital of Senegal. It is a neo-byzantine building designed by architect Charles-Albert Wulffleff. The government granted the church land from an ancient Lebu cemetery to build the sanctuary.
Construction began in 1924, and the cathedral was consecrated on 2 February 1936 by Cardinal Jean Verdier, archbishop of Paris. In 1964, the initial inscription above the entrance was changed into the current one. The building remains the seat of the Archdiocese of Dakar.
Cardinal Hyacinthe Thiandoum, who died in 2004, is buried in the back of the altar next to the statue of Our Lady of Victories, the patron of the cathedral. In 2001, the funeral of former President Leopold Senghor was performed in the church.
